| چکیده | ||
| Background: Myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD), characterized by progressive myxomatous degeneration of the mitral valve leaflets, accounts for approximately 70 % of all heart diseases in dogs. Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate serum levels of MMP-3 and major lipoprotein components, as well as total antioxidant capacity (TAC) in dogs with different clinical stages of MMVD, and to evaluate the correlation of the mentioned parameters with each other and with echocardiographic and radiographic parameters. Methods: A total of 40 dogs, including 29 dogs with MMVD and 11 healthy dogs as controls, were included in the study. MMVD cases were classified into stages B1, B2 and C according to the classification suggested by American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM). Serum MMP-3 levels, serum TAC concentration (FRAP method), and serum lipoproteins were evaluated. Results: Serum MMP-3 levels showed no significant difference between MMVD stages and controls. A significant decrease in HDL-C levels was observed in the stage C group compared to the control group. Dogs with advanced MMVD (stage C) had significantly higher mean serum LDL-C concentrations than the control group. No significant changes were observed in serum HDL-C and LDL-C levels in dogs with different stages of MMVD. Also, TAC levels were significantly decreased in different stages of MMVD compared to control. There was a significant positive correlation between TAC and HDL-C. Also, TAC showed a significant negative correlation with MMP-3, LVIDd and LVIDdN. A significant positive correlation was observed between LA/AO ratio and LVIDd, LA/AO ratio and LVIDdN, LA/AO ratio and VHS. There was a significant positive correlation between LVIDdN and LVIDd as well as LVIDdN and VHS. No other significant correlations were observed between the variables. Conclusion: Our results cannot confirm the correlation of MMP-3 and TAC with different stages of MMVD in dogs. However, the correlation between MMP-3 and TAC as well as TAC and HDL-C may indicate the role of MMP-3, TAC, and HDL-C in the pathogenesis of MMVD. Further studies are needed to clarify the role of serum MMP-3, dyslipidemia and oxidative stress in the pathogenesis and diagnosis of canine MMVD. | ||
