| چکیده | ||
| On-farm participatory evaluation of improved Shallot varieties was carried out in the 2021/22 cropping season in Sekota districts under supplementary irrigation. The objectives of the experiment were to evaluate and demonstrate the performances of different improved Shallot varieties involving farmers and stakeholders, and then to catch their feedback. The host farmers were selected purposively based on willingness and motivation to implement the experiment according to the research recommendation, both theoretical and practical training was provided for the host farmers and FREG members. Two shallot varieties (Yeras and shallot ‘DZ-91-2B) were demonstrated on a 100 m2 plot of land, and the treatments were subjected to t-test to determine whether there is a statistical difference between treatments and descriptive statistics like mean, frequency, and percentages were used to analyze the quantitative biological data. The average seed yield for Yeras and shallot ‘DZ-91-2B’were 8.2qt/ha-1 and 7.7 qt/ha-1 respectively, in terms of the earliness Yeras and shallot ‘DZ-91-2B’ varieties were 125 and 130 days respectively. From these Yeras variety provided the highest seed yield and ranked the highest score of overall preference attributes rank. The farmers and stakeholders also showed greater interest and motivation for the improved shallot varieties as it is for food self-sufficiency and generating income. Therefore, for further dissemination and promotion of Yeras improved shallot variety with its full package is recommended for the irrigable midland areas of Wag himra zone by the respective Agricultural office. | ||
