| چکیده | ||
| Tourism market polarization is one of the consequences of sanctions, boycotts, and economic or political obstacles. In recent years, many countries have faced increasing polarization in their tourism markets. This study aims to investigate the factors influencing Iran’s tourism market polarization, as a country under sanctions, where the level of polarization has more than doubled over the past decade. To achieve this aim, the analysis distinguishes between different origins of tourists. The study employed panel data analysis for 51 origin markets over the period 2009–2022, a method that combines time-series and cross-sectional data. The findings are divided into two categories. First, the results related to the main explanatory variables show that factors such as visa removal and the gravity index do not have a significant effect on polarization. While sanctions as a whole and the number of inbound tourists significantly influence the level of tourism market polarization. Second, the results of country-specific effects indicated that some countries have stronger influences on Iran’s tourism market polarization than others. By combining these effects with the volume of inbound tourists from existing or targeted markets, potential markets can be identified to help reduce polarization. | ||
